If you have been diagnosed with a cataract by your optometrist, the ophthalmologists at Piedmont Eye Surgical & Laser Center can help you determine if cataract surgery is your best option. Many local optometrists refer patients to our office knowing that Piedmont Eye Surgical & Laser Center offers the latest cataract surgery technology and superior patient care.
Your Evaluation
Your cataract surgery evaluation will begin with our doctors carefully assessing your risk factors. We ask that you bring with you a list of your allergies, medical history, and any medications you are currently taking. If you have had LASIK, you will need to bring any notes regarding your LASIK surgery as well. This information will help our doctors determine if any complications may occur during your surgery.
After your initial discussion, one of our technicians will perform a thorough evaluation of your eyes. This will include checking things such as:
- Vision
- Prescription
- How your eyes work together
- Pupil size
- Eye pressure
- The curvature of your eye
After your examination, our eye doctors will discuss your premium lens replacement options and schedule your surgery. We will also write you a prescription for eye drops that will need to be used after your surgery.
You will be asked not to wear contact lenses for up to two weeks prior to your surgery. It is important that you follow all of the pre-surgery advice to help reduce your risk for potential complications.
How Should I Prepare for the Evaluation?
This is a thorough exam and can take up to three hours. Please allow adequate time in your schedule for our doctors to make a full assessment of your candidacy for this procedure. Taking the appropriate time to evaluate your eyes will help ensure a safe and effective outcome.
