Lens Replacement
Cataract surgery requires a replacement of your cloudy lens with an artificial one known as an intraocular lens (IOL.) Our eye surgeons offer premium lens replacement options to our patients, helping to ensure an IOL that is ideal to meet your unique needs.
To perform cataract surgery, your ophthalmologist will need to make a small incision in your eye through which the cloudy lens can be extracted. This is often accomplished by first breaking up the cataract with state-of-the-art technology such as ultrasound waves to assist in full removal of the cloudy lens. Once your natural lens is removed, your IOL will be placed.

Cataract Surgery Recovery
Following cataract surgery, the surgeon will supply you with a protective eye shield and prescription eye drops. It is important that you wear your eye shield for the first 24 hours and while sleeping or napping for the first week after surgery. Eye drops will need to be administered several times a day to help prevent infection and other unnecessary complications.
During your first few weeks of recovery, you will need to also need to avoid heavy lifting. Our doctors recommend lifting nothing over 10 pounds for at least one week. In addition, you should avoid activities that require bending or strenuous physical exertion for at least one week after your cataract surgery. Also, do not have any dental procedures performed, including cleaning until two weeks after your cataract surgery.
Swimming or any activity that can cause substances to come into contact with your eye should also be avoided. We will provide you with specific instructions and answer all of your cataract surgery questions before you undergo this procedure.
